AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-07-27

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Quiet day overhead — traffic running 28% below the weekly average, with a modest collection of heavies, a handful of low-level general aviation, and enough anomalies to keep the watch officer awake.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

KOW519 [A68371] tops the altitude chart at 45,000 ft, heading 114° at 483 kts — comfortably above standard commercial ceilings. Somebody paid for the good air up there.

N6505R [A88FD1] is another high-flyer at 43,000 ft, westbound on heading 236° at 502 kts. Unscheduled registration, no airline callsign — likely a large business jet with somewhere important to be.

EJA887 [AC3945] at 41,000 ft and HER18 [A14010] also at 41,000 ft round out the altitude leaders. The skies above FL400 were clearly the fashionable address today.

At the opposite end, N344PH [A3CD77] was observed at 1,050 ft doing 25 knots on heading 263°. That is not an airplane — that is a helicopter on a Sunday drive.

N55743 [A71C6C] at 1,700 ft and 74 knots is also puttering along at low altitude, heading north. General aviation out enjoying the summer.

ANOMALIES

AAL2301 [AD4873] — LOW AND FAST: 200 feet, 491 knots. This contact either represents a military low-level track, a seriously misreported altitude, or something that has had a very bad day. Flagged for follow-up.

RPA5655 [A20957]: 1,025 ft at 398 knots. Regional turboprop speeds at pattern altitude. Something does not add up.

ETD7EE [8966C5] — UNKNOWN HEX: ICAO code falls outside all known national allocation ranges. Etihad callsign prefix, unknown transponder origin. Noted.

BAW7TG, BAW8K, BAW220: Three British-registered contacts transiting the area at cruise altitude. The Crown's air forces remain active overhead.

JZA755, JZA897, JZA927: Three Jazz Aviation contacts with Canadian ICAO registrations — expected for trans-border traffic, included for completeness.

KOW201 [A19679]: Flagged at 45,225 ft — above the 45,000 ft standard commercial ceiling. Consistent with a business jet or military platform.

PATTERN NOTES

Today's 733 contacts (658 unique) sit 28% below the 7-day average of 1,017. The anomaly log registered traffic-deviation alerts repeatedly throughout the day, beginning as low as 98% below average in early-hour snapshots before recovering. A substantial number of regular flights — including UAL715, AAL3110, DAL1163, SKW4646, and dozens more — did not appear. Whether this reflects schedule reductions, a systemic feed issue, or collective pilot indisposition remains undetermined.
