AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-07-20

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Quiet day over the Falls — traffic running 32% below the weekly average, anomalies running embarrassingly above it.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

AFR099 (French registration 394A15), 35,000 ft, inbound on heading 051°. Our system flagged the "AFR" prefix against the government/military list, which is technically correct — Air France is, after all, named after a country. Likely a transatlantic service repositioning northeastward. Noted regardless.

VPCCQ (UK registration 424724), 46,975 ft — above the standard commercial ceiling of 45,000 ft. Callsign is a UK-registered bizjet format. Whatever it is, it prefers its airspace uncrowded and its altitude uncommon.

EJM239 (A22B0B), also at 46,975 ft. No position data provided in today's feed, but the altitude alone earns a mention. Two contacts above FL450 in one day is unusual.

FFT1491, 3,500 ft, heading 095° at 229 knots — notably low and slow compared to the cruise-level crowd. Frontier feeder traffic working its way east at regional altitudes.

DAL8882, 875 ft, heading 238° at 133 knots — almost certainly on approach to CLE. Lowest confirmed commercial contact of the day.

ANOMALIES

Nineteen unnamed contacts (Mode S active, no flight ID broadcast) were observed at altitudes ranging from 22,100 to 45,000 ft. All are squawking; none are introducing themselves. This is legal, if antisocial.

ASH6246 (hex E40090) carries an ICAO code outside any recognized national allocation. It exists. Where it's from is a philosophical question.

XAFAP and XAFTY — two additional unknown-hex contacts not in today's main traffic list. They appeared in anomaly detection only. Consider them noted and suspicious until proven boring.

IBE03HT (Spanish registration) and CJT942 (Canadian) transited the area without incident. Canada and Spain, making their quiet contributions to Ohio's overhead.

PATTERN NOTES

Traffic today topped out at 309 contacts (295 unique aircraft), against a 7-day average of 453. The deficit appeared early and never recovered. DAL1145, SWA4862, UAL2630, and UAL648 are among the regulars who did not check in — between them, they're repeat no-shows across multiple anomaly flags. DAL2791, AAL1121, and UPS1446 also absent without explanation.

The dominant flow remains the standard east-west distribution at FL310–FL370, with a handful of regional contacts in the 2,000–10,000 ft band consistent with CLE approach/departure activity.
