AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-10-14
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Abnormally quiet day — traffic running 62% below the 7-day average, with the skies looking more like a Tuesday in February than a Wednesday in October.
NOTABLE TRAFFIC
The dominant theme today is eastbound jet traffic at cruise altitude. UAL2168 [37,000 ft, 527 kts] and AAL610 [37,000 ft, 521 kts] led a steady procession of airliners tracking roughly east-southeast through the area. CCK58 topped the speed chart among the heavies at 544 kts and 41,000 ft, heading due east. At the other end of the spectrum, N5779T was picking her way eastbound at a leisurely 99 kts and 2,025 ft — somebody is not in a hurry. KSF6 checked in at 57 kts and 2,550 ft, which raises the question of whether it was flying or simply falling with enthusiasm.
EDV5071 was the low-altitude outlier among commercial traffic — 4,375 ft at 249 kts heading south, consistent with a descent or approach sequence.
ANOMALIES
Three US military contacts squawked today, all carrying the RCH callsign — RCH4174 [32,000 ft], RCH4142 [39,000 ft], and RCH4618 [33,000 ft]. RCH designates Air Mobility Command airlift missions. Three in one day is worth noting; make of that what you will.
One contact — AE779F — presented a military hex range with no callsign whatsoever. It was here. It said nothing. Classic.
Foreign registrations were well-represented: seven Canadian-registered aircraft transited the area, plus visitors from Germany (BOX390, GEC8223), Spain (IBE0308), the United Kingdom (BAW186, DHK703, DHK009), and Qatar (QTR732, QTR8188) — the latter two carrying unrecognized ICAO hex codes.
JBU2289 flagged low-and-fast at 2,800 ft / 216 kts. UAL1951 similarly flagged at 2,975 ft / 238 kts. Both warrant a raised eyebrow.
PATTERN NOTES
Volume tells the real story: 521 contacts against a 7-day average of 1,389. The missing-regulars list is extensive — UAL1776, EDV5514, JBU136, UPS1441, and dozens more simply did not appear. This is a systemic reduction, not isolated gaps. No obvious weather or NOTAM data is available to this station to explain the drop. Someone upstairs knows something we don't.
