AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-10-10

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Exceptionally quiet day — 131 aircraft tracked against a 7-day average of 1,662, representing a 92% shortfall. The sky over northeast Ohio was, by any reasonable measure, nearly empty.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

BAW186 (British Airways, ICAO 4074E4) transited at 41,000 ft on heading 060° — one of two UK-registered contacts today, a reminder that not everyone is staying home. Accompanied by BAW3GB at 39,000 ft, heading 077°. The Crown showed up in force, relatively speaking.

EVA003 (ICAO 899136) tracked at 26,000 ft heading 305°. ICAO hex falls outside known national allocation ranges — origin of registration unknown. Callsign and altitude are nominal; the paperwork is not.

EJM750 topped the altitude chart at 47,000 ft — above the standard commercial ceiling. Consistent with a large business jet. Somebody is having a better day than the rest of us.

N1886G also operating above standard ceiling at 45,025 ft, heading east at 584 kts. No anomaly beyond the altitude, but worth noting.

LXJ421 drew attention at 2,225 ft and 217 kts — flagged low-and-fast. Could be a legitimate Citation-class approach or departure; could be something else. Bears watching.

ANOMALIES

Eleven contacts transmitted with no callsign despite active Mode S transponders: A071C8, AD3997, A58E1E, AC7902, C00638, ABBD73, A2668B, A887E3, A33D68, ACE718, ABD19E, A3A0EB, AC3558, and AC5A94. Some are at cruise altitudes. They know we're here; they're just not saying hello.

C00638 compounds the mystery: Canadian-registered, no callsign, 30,000 ft. Polite enough to squawk Mode S; impolite enough to say nothing else.

MBK780, CJT943, CJT479, and CJT477 are all Canadian-registered and operating normally — callsigns present, altitudes routine. Canada is well-represented today, both the talkative and the silent varieties.

PATTERN NOTES

Traffic volume is catastrophically below normal by any historical comparison. The 7-day average of 1,662 daily contacts makes today's 131 look like a ground stop with stragglers. Over 200 expected regular flights failed to appear — UAL, DAL, SWA, RPA, AAL, EDV, JBU, and many others simply absent. No single explanation is available from this data alone; a systemic cause (weather, ATC, scheduling event) should be investigated at higher echelon.

The handful of low-altitude contacts — UPS1441, SWA2267, AAL498, PRY05 — suggest some arrival/departure activity continues in the region, presumably out of CLE.
