AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-10-02

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Unusually quiet day over the falls — traffic running 63% below the 7-day average with 641 contacts logged against a baseline of 1,731, and the skies were thin enough to notice.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

The bulk of today's high-altitude traffic was standard east-west commerce: a solid column of United, Delta, American, Southwest, and JetBlue metal pushing between 31,000 and 41,000 feet, speeds in the 420–535 knot range, nothing to write home about. LET5213 [0D11B0] stands apart — ICAO hex falls outside any known national allocation, yet it was cruising at 41,000 feet doing 514 knots eastbound like it owned the place. KOW201 [A19679] punched up to 48,900 feet, comfortably above the commercial ceiling, suggesting a large business jet or something that prefers not to be asked questions. Down in the weeds, DAL2150 was observed at 850 feet doing 142 knots on heading 230° — presumably on approach, but worth noting.

ANOMALIES

VADER51 [AE77A0] — military hex, callsign absolutely on brand — was down at 2,200 feet doing 194 knots southbound. Low, relatively fast, not squawking commercially. Filed under "noted." Two Southwest contacts — N97SJ and SWA4352 — triggered low-and-fast flags at 2,650 ft/200 kts and 2,400 ft/221 kts respectively, neither of which appears in today's confirmed contact list by those names; altitude or identity may be misreported. Five contacts carry unknown ICAO hex codes (LET5213, WIN1201, VTM680, VTM288, VTM527, UAE256, LJY36) — no known national allocation. That is not a small number for a quiet day. Foreign registrations from Canada, Germany, Spain, and Saudi Arabia transited the area; all at cruise altitude, nothing irregular beyond paperwork.

PATTERN NOTES

Traffic was dramatically suppressed all day, starting 98% below average in early contacts and recovering only to a 63% deficit by day's end — consistent throughout, not a data gap. The usual regulars were largely absent: UAL1715, DAL2068, AAL2245, and well over a hundred additional scheduled flights failed to appear. Whether this reflects a schedule disruption, a data feed anomaly, or an unusually good day to stay on the ground is left as an exercise for Command. Local low-altitude activity — KSF-series, small GA — was present but sparse.
