AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-09-01

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Significantly suppressed traffic day — 635 contacts logged against a 7-day average of 1,222, running 48% below normal from first light to final contact.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

The high-altitude parade was largely unremarkable in composition if thin in numbers. BAW19W (UK registration, 407CD2) crossed at 39,000 ft doing 513 kts eastbound — Britain checking in, as usual, without asking permission. EIN9WM (4CAE33) transited at 33,000 ft on a 59° heading; ICAO hex falls outside known national allocation ranges, which the Irish callsign prefix does nothing to resolve.

Down low, a small cluster of general aviation kept things lively near the deck. N971CC worked the pattern northwest of Chagrin Falls at 2,200 ft, 122 kts. PRY05 crept southbound at 1,325 ft and a leisurely 70 kts — someone in no particular hurry. KSF39 managed 64 kts at 1,500 ft, which is nominally flying.

SKW4937 and SWA1197/AAL3146 were observed at or near 750 ft on southwest headings in close proximity — consistent with Cleveland Hopkins approach sequence, though the altitude warrants a second glance.

ANOMALIES

N8SW (AADED0) pinged at 47,000 ft — above standard commercial ceiling. No further data in today's contacts. Make of that what you will.

EJA178 similarly transited at 46,975 ft. Business jet territory, but worth noting.

Hex C00638 transmitted at 34,000 ft with no callsign broadcast and Canadian registration. Mode S active, flight ID: silent. Polite, but not forthcoming.

RAX121, N35AS, and JRE841 all flagged low-and-fast — sub-3,000 ft at 200+ knots. Possibly military, possibly creative routing. Noted.

THY182 carries a Netherlands ICAO hex (4BB181) under a Turkish Airlines callsign. Cross-border leasing arrangements make this plausible; it is logged nonetheless.

PATTERN NOTES

Traffic volume declined steadily throughout the day and never recovered. The 7-day average of 1,222 was never approached. Regulars absent in volume include multiple UAL, DAL, RPA, FFT, JBU, EDV, and SKW sequences — a broad institutional absence rather than isolated gaps. KAL093 and THY91J, normally reliable international transits, did not appear. No single carrier explains the shortfall. Labor Day holiday traffic reshaping is the most straightforward explanation, though that is an inference, not confirmed data.
