AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-08-27

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Unusually quiet day over the falls — traffic running 46% below the 7-day average, with military contacts and foreign registrations providing most of the day's intrigue.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

EVA004 [899087] — Eva Air inbound at 38,975 ft, 532 kts, heading 131°. Carries an ICAO hex that falls outside any known national allocation. Taiwan's flag carrier, apparently traveling incognito.

EJA880 [AC1F44] — NetJets fractional at 45,000 ft, the day's altitude champion. Someone is enjoying the thin air and presumably a beverage service unavailable to the rest of us.

DLH469 [3C4A13] — Lufthansa at 36,975 ft, German-registered, heading northeast at 534 kts. Fastest mover in today's picture.

N971CC [AD8791] — 925 ft, 17 kts, heading 201°. This is barely flying. Helicopter or ultralight puttering south of Cleveland Hopkins. We wish it well.

UAL2002 [AA9B82] — United at 825 ft, 156 kts, heading 230°. Likely on short final into Hopkins. Nothing alarming, but noteworthy proximity to the deck.

ANOMALIES

VADER91 [AE77A0] — Military hex, 2,925 ft, 232 kts. Low, fast, and named after a Sith Lord. The Force is apparently operating in our airspace today. Contact not present in the main traffic list but confirmed in anomaly log.

G72195 [AE1FD2] — Second military hex contact, 2,250 ft, 112 kts, heading northeast. Less menacing callsign, equally unannounced.

CNS111 [A2A682] — 2,600 ft at 201 kts. Flagged low-and-fast. No military hex, no obvious explanation. Bears watching.

FYL14LP [39A56F] — French-registered at 40,000 ft heading west. France has opinions about everything, including our airspace.

AMX680 [0D1030] — Aeromexico with an ICAO hex belonging to no known nation. Mexico has joined the mystery hex club alongside Qatar and EVA Air.

CGEPH [C050C6] — Canadian registration, spotted multiple times climbing through 1,600–1,900 ft. Patient or indecisive; jury is out.

PATTERN NOTES

Overall traffic sat 46% below the 7-day average of 1,124 contacts — the deficit was consistent throughout the day, not tied to a single quiet hour. The missing-regulars list is extensive: RPA, EDV, DAL, and SWA feeders are conspicuously absent in volume. No obvious weather or NOTAM data to explain it in this picture; recommended for follow-up. Canadian traffic (WestJet, Air Canada Jazz variants, Rouen series) remained active at altitude.
