AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-07-12
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Exceptionally quiet day — traffic running 89% below the 7-day average, with the skies over northeast Ohio largely vacated by regulars and populated by the usual westbound parade of airliners plus a small collection of aircraft apparently allergic to callsigns.
NOTABLE TRAFFIC
BAW8K (UK registration, ICAO 406EC9) — 39,000 ft, heading 063° at 507 kts. British Airways making its transatlantic appearance. The Crown's contribution to the day's traffic.
IBE03HT (Spanish registration, ICAO 3444C4) — 37,000 ft, heading 075° at 488 kts. Iberia joining the international contingent, eastbound at cruise.
AMX680 (ICAO 0D0ACD) — 37,000 ft, heading 065° at 466 kts. Callsign suggests Aeroméxico, but the hex code falls outside any recognized national allocation range. Flying fine, squawking odd.
AAL1934 — 2,700 ft, 189 kts, heading 108°. Low and slow near 41.347°N, 82.063°W. Likely on approach to Cleveland Hopkins. Nothing alarming, just close to the deck.
AAL2260 — 675 ft, 140 kts, heading 050°. Even lower. This one is practically reading road signs. Also approach-phase traffic near CLE.
N952CP — 1,400 ft, 66 kts, heading 296°. General aviation. Moving at the pace of a motivated bicycle.
ANOMALIES
Fourteen contacts transmitting no callsign at cruise altitudes (26,850–39,000 ft). All show active Mode S transponders. This is not unusual in itself, but the volume is worth a note. Contacts include AA8315, AB9D9E, A11F5A, A535C2, AAA5AE, AC6622, A143A3, A486B3, AA9A30, A12798, ADAFB5, AB3D39, A3C8D1, AA1E8B, and AAFDA1. No positions available on several. Watching.
Traffic volume closed the day at 112 contacts against a 7-day average of 1,062. That is not a rounding error.
PATTERN NOTES
The regulars have largely not shown up. Absent flights include EDV, RPA, GJS, and DAL series that historically appear reliably at these hours. SWA2454, UAL1701, DAL1558, and others failed to materialize across multiple observation windows. Whether this reflects a scheduling anomaly, weather upstream, or something more systemic is beyond this desk's visibility. The westbound flow (headings 265°–310°) remained the dominant pattern. Eastbound traffic was lighter but present.
