AIR PICTURE — CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — 2026-06-25

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Exceptionally quiet day overhead — 266 contacts versus a 7-day average of 1,863, placing today 86% below baseline. The sky is not empty, but it is notably polite about it.

NOTABLE TRAFFIC

KOW186 / N204A / USC58 / TFF936 — Multiple westbound heavies threading the 41.2–41.3°N corridor at 43,000–44,000 ft, 277–274° heading. A well-used highway up there today.

UAL1597 / UAL2168 / UAL2613 / DAL1643 — Eastbound flow active at 37,000 ft, speeds 522–542 kts, headings in the 73–88° range. Standard transcon traffic pressing toward the Atlantic seaboard.

SWA909 — Southwest at 11,050 ft, 308 kts, heading 259°. Somebody is descending. Cleveland Hopkins beckons.

N6544K — Low and slow: 3,400 ft, 96 kts, heading 186°. Piston GA aircraft, practically sightseeing by the standards of everything else aloft today.

N53AL — 1,125 ft, 37 knots, heading 182°. That is barely faster than a brisk bicycle and significantly closer to the Cuyahoga Valley than feels strictly necessary.

IBE0352 / SWR41G — Foreign heavies transiting at altitude: Iberia out of Spain and Swiss out of the Netherlands, both heading northeast. They don't stop here; they just wave as they pass.

LXJ511 / LXJ576 / LXJ603 — Three Flexjet fractional operations in the picture simultaneously, ranging from 2,125 ft (inbound) to 45,000 ft. Fractional ownership apparently peaked today.

ANOMALIES

[A03D98] — Anonymous contact at 47,000 ft, no callsign. Above standard commercial ceiling. Mode S active, flight ID silent. Business jet or something wearing a trench coat. Monitoring warranted.

[C01FBA] — Canadian-registered, no callsign, 34,000 ft, heading 207°. Transponder cooperative; identity, less so.

[5083A2] — Italian registration, unknown altitude, no callsign. Noted; filed; mildly suspicious.

QTR51U / VTM220 / AMX692 — Three contacts with ICAO hex codes falling outside any known national allocation range. Qatar Airways callsign on one softens the concern slightly, but the other two remain unexplained.

A total of 17 no-callsign high-altitude contacts were logged today. Most are likely routine equipage anomalies. Most.

PATTERN NOTES

Traffic is dramatically suppressed — 86% below the 7-day average. Dozens of regular flights (DAL, UAL, RPA, SWA series) failed to appear across multiple hourly windows. The absences are systematic enough to suggest a schedule disruption event rather than sensor degradation, as the contacts we did receive are clean and well-distributed. East-west flows at high altitude remained intact. Low-altitude GA activity was sparse but present.
